Winter Storm Watch? Really??

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for several counties in northern Minnesota.  Snow may start to fly Thursday evening, with six inches of snow on the ground before Friday is done.  Well, it is October now . . . but, couldn’t we at least let the leaves fall off of the trees before we cover them in snow?

Since I already published my weekly “Reflection of Gratitude,” I will just call this “P.S. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”

But rather than blathering on about the magic that winter can bring, and why many of us truly do look forward to having a winter season (at least for the first month or two it visits us), I will let a short video do the talking.  I put this together after doing a day trip with White Wilderness Sled Dog Adventures near Ely, Minnesota last winter.  I was reminded of the video since Ely is one of the cities included in the winter storm watch area this week . . . and because it always brings a smile to my face whenever I think of the memories my family and I have from that magical day in the winter woods.

I will post some of the photos I took that day in a future post, once winter arrives on a more permanent basis — let’s hope that is not next week!

Ciao! ~ Kat

    • This early in the season, the snow is rarely exciting enough to report back about — however, the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 was something else (just like Pooh Bear, where the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down, except we had snow, snow, snow for days with about 3 feet by the time it was done!). We Minnesotans tend to talk about the weather a lot! Stay cool, Jane! ~ Kat

    • The ground is still so warm, it’s stay should be brief. However, come mid-November or so as the high school nordic ski season starts up, we want it to snow and stay through February at least! Last winter was dismal for winter sports due to lack of snow. ~ Kat
