Taking the Risk to Blossom

“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~ Anaïs Nin

Crabapple tree blossoms

Even though images such as these are still a couple of months away in northern Minnesota, it is nice to think of spring as we wade through what is often a gray, gloomy month.  Transitions in seasons are sometimes uninspiring, leaving us impatiently waiting for the next season to fully unfold.  For most of us, life similarly presents periodic stretches of uninspiring experiences, which we impatiently endure.  Sometimes we force our blossom, and at other times our blossom is forced.  Neither scenario is necessarily better or worse.  We can appreciate the blossom either way.

  1. Hmm. With this post, and quite a few others I’ve seen recently, I can only assume that you and the universe and WordPress are conspiring to encourage me. What a great message, Kat!

  2. After a long and very snowy winter, I’m eagerly awaiting spring. Your photo reminds us that spring will eventually get here…even if there is another snowstorm on its way.

    • Thanks, Madhu! I never grow tired of reading this quote (and always enjoy the spring crab apple blossoms that fill the surrounding air with the most wonderful fragrance in addition to looking so pretty).

  3. Kat, I am so looking forward to spring – warm days, fresh air, and flowers. So many people seem depressed right now, and I keep telling them to hold on, the weather will break soon and spirits will be lifted. Your blossom photo is lovely.
