Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting

Capturing that fleeting light as the sun sets is the challenge of the photographer.

Snap too soon and the light has not fully matured to realize the potential of the sunset’s glorious hues.

Wait a moment too long and the beautiful shafts of light are gone . . . but the surfers nicely backlit and outlined as they head back in for the night.

It is all about choosing your moment, and recognizing that all moments are fleeting.  And each moment can be full of potential, with hope for the next one and regret for the one that just passed.  The real challenge?  To just enjoy the moment you are in.

  8. Beautiful, Kat. Your photos and words describe it perfectly–the fleeting nature of the moment. It’s here and then it’s gone. But, if we keep our eyes open, we see some amazing beauty. Thank you.

  9. Beautiful and all too fleeting. What a blessing that the sun rises and sets every day, even though some sunrises and sunsets are more spectacular than others! 🙂

  20. My thoughts exactly! I really can’t find much to fault with either of the first two, but the light is definitely gone, or shall we say “less than ideal” in the last one.

    • Thank goodness for digital cameras that allow us to capture those repeated shots trying to freeze in time that “perfect” light, rather than waiting and preserving the limited shots we have on film, only later to discover we missed it!

      • I have never shot film, and I try not to rely on the “spray and pray” method of shooting with digital(though I bet we all did in the beginning), but you are so right!

        Being able to immediately see if you’ve captured what you’re after is worth its weight in gold.
