Weekly Photo Challenge: The Golden Hour

Bloggers already have submitted many beautiful photos of sunrises and sunsets to illustrate this week’s theme, “The Golden Hour.”  I love the way sunlight at the beginning and end of the day plays across the water — whether it be oceans, or lakes, or rivers. But, I came inland to the forest instead, where the warm hues of the setting sun cast a golden light and cause the just-fallen leaves to glow.  So easy to take for granted, yet so important to appreciate.

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.” ~ Crowfoot, Blackfoot warrior and orator

    • One of these perfect, ever-so-fleeting summer mornings we have in the northern parts I need to get myself out of bed early enough to capture the golden hour at the other end of the day! However, the night owl in me is not so enthused.

  1. These posts and the photos accompanying them, Kat, have made me realize just how much I miss camping. Sunrise in the woods is magical, as is the sunset. You’ve managed to capture that in this photo. Well done.

    • There is something about camping and enjoying time in the woods where you are able to more closely absorb the details of scenes like these. And the photos never quite do the scenes justice. Thanks, John.
