Happy images! I used to love watching fritillaries in the garden – no more, but there are other tings to watch, always.

Every setting has its own special residents to sit and observe (and capture a shot or two).

Nature helped set up the composition of those shots perfectly! Thanks, Seonaid.

I wish I had 1/2 of your talent. Just viewed your zoo photographs as well and you have such a good eye in capturing a shot that makes you feel like you are looking through a glass wall. These photographs of the butterfly are incredible.

Your comment made my day, tiny! My food photos cannot hold a candle to yours, though.

Great shots, Kat. How lucky to find that butterfly atop that coneflower. Such wonderful colors!

The butterfly was so diligent, carefully exploring every nook and cranny of that flower.

Absolutely lovely shots! I wonder why the butterflies never pose for me..? Maybe I’m too noisy coming close! What’s your secret?

The shots I deleted far exceeded the ones I kept! Digital photography is great that way.

Beautiful shots of a fritillary butterfly – maybe the Great Spangled or the Aphrodite Fritillary? I’m not confident about which, but both make it as far north as southern Canada. He/she was obviously quite pleased with that flower as a buffet table!

I admit, I did not take the time to identify this one, but based on this side-by-side, thinking a Great Spangled http://www.naba.org/chapters/nabambc/frames-2species.asp?sp1=Speyeria-cybele&sp2=Speyeria-aphrodite? — it was in Duluth, Minnesota, so certainly could be either of them! Always so fascinating to watch as they carefully feed on nectar.
