Weekly Photo Challenge: Good Morning

I am not a morning person by nature.  But I find that pitching the tent and unplugging from the world for even a few days has me greeting the world as the sun crests the horizon.

Interestingly, some science may underlie this tendency for even night owls like me to convert to early birds when spending time in the great outdoors.  This article explains that the “nature effect” on night owls who go camping is the most dramatic.  Apparently, we are all morning people at heart.

  1. Great image Kat! I am definitely a night owl! I also love camping (though it’s in a travel trailer) but I never really thought about how it’s easier for me to go to sleep early and get up early when I’m camping. Will try some of those daily tips especially with my nine year old daughter. She really has a hard time going to sleep at night.

  2. I love mornings, but now that doggie isn’t around to get me out of bad quite as early, I have a tendency to linger in bed and miss some amazing sunrises. No there’s a New Years resolution 😆

  3. I’m a night owl. It’s three a.m. right now! But I am trying to get up earlier. That was an interesting article. Maybe I will throw those blinds up and let the morning sun in. Nice picture, Kat.

    • Thanks, Maddie — it is so much harder for me to push the alarm earlier versus push bedtime later! When I have trained for half marathons and had to get up early on Saturdays to meet friends for a long run, I always appreciated it afterward — and found my body clock slowly shifting, because I knew that morning alarm would be miserable if bedtime didn’t come earlier too!

  4. I’m with you, Kat. I’m by no means a morning person but, when camping, I love getting up with the birds and watching the sun rise. Pure bliss! 🙂

  5. Getting up close and personal with nature will do it every time! We can’t stand to be asleep when the sun comes up and there’s so much going on out there! We may miss something great. 😉
