We paddled off in search of the pitcher plants reportedly growing along the edge of one of the bays of the lake, lurking amidst the cattails and other bog-loving flora.

After slowly moving through the late summer lily pad fields, we scanned the edges of the sections of shoreline most likely to attract the pitcher plants.

Close to calling off the search and paddling back to the cabin, something unique caught our eye.

We drew in close and confirmed we had managed to find a solitary pitcher plant!

Its flowers were showing signs of being late in the season, but the pitchers were still prominent, each one a unique invitation to the plant’s next meal.
