Furniture has been pushed to the side, plastic tree bag spread below, as the Christmas tree dominates the room for the remainder of the month.

Care is taken not to have ornaments too close to the bottom branches — where they pose extra temptation to the feline members of the household.

Sitting in the dark with nothing but the lights on the tree to illuminate the room always sets a tone of peace and calm.
