In August 2012, I wrote these words in WordPress:
Life is a wonderful journey. As we reflect, our favorite memories confirm that the best things in life truly are not things, but rather experiences: travel near and far, the simplicity of nature found in the garden and great outdoors, and good food with family and friends. Sit back and enjoy — you can always clean tomorrow!
Over the years, the frequency of blogging ebbed and flowed, but I enjoyed the community of creative inspiration, as well as the frequent reminders of our shared humanity. I also selfishly enjoyed a space where I could shift gears from the day job or other mundane obligations to revisit the artistic side of myself that used to get more exercise during my youth through creative writing, music, and art.

Why Kat Up North?
Why create the Substack “Kat Up North”? Why not? Once again, I am writing for me, for my expressive outlet. But, if a post here or there brings joy or even a feeling of camaraderie in experiences, I welcome you joining me and following along or stopping by when the spirit moves you. You can expect stories and photos regarding many of the same simple pleasures I noted in my opening words on WordPress as I dipped my toes into the blogosphere back in 2012, including frequent images and reflections on northern Minnesota’s beauty and the allure of the Northwoods.
