54/365 Last Gasp of Fall #yearofgratitude

On a whim, as I headed out the door to walk Winnie, we shifted gears and headed to one of our favorite fall oases in the middle of the city.

The late afternoon sun cast a warm glow over the greens and golds and reds of the trees.

With an autumn that seemed to have more than its fair share of cloudy days, the brilliant blue was a welcome backdrop to the golden canopy above us.

The maple trees carpeted the trails and created a corridor that glowed as sunset approached. These paths hold many happy memories of trail running with good friends over the years, sharing the ups and downs of life as we meandered the ups and downs of the trail.

And as Winnie and I crested the top of the trail, Lake Superior reminded us why she hosts some of the prettiest spots in the world …. made even more special because we get to call it home.
